“The Meat and Potatoes of Life: My True Lit Com” is the story of Lisa Smith Molinari.  Molinari could have had a career as a successful litigator in a big law firm and made a ton of money.  She had the education and the skill set and the job and the drive and everything it took. She also, however, has a family that needs her and loves her and a better than average sense of patriotism and duty.

As the spouse of a Navy Officer who was regularly transferred all over the world, the reality of multiple bar exams and climbing the partnership track was not possible.  Instead, Molinari threw herself into military and family life, writing a successful, award-winning column for Stars and Stripes, the long-lived military newspaper.

Molinari sees her life as a sitcom, writing the book in seasons and episodes instead of chapters.  The book is wholesome and heartwarming and humorous. She weathers deployments, complete upheavals of life and location, childhood illnesses, devastating diagnoses, loneliness, toddlerhood, empty nests, sullen teenagers, and everything life throws at her with humor and good grace.  She sees her family for who they are – their faults and their strengths – and loves them because of it all.

From first date to retirement, pregnancy to college dorms, this is a truly American story, the Meat and Potatoes not just of Molinari’s life but of American life — of what we want American life to be.  It’s comfortingly normal, to see that all the things that go wrong work out in the end, just like a sitcom, can be looked at with a laugh track and be made to feel better with some comfort food – like meat and potatoes.

The book’s official release date is May 1 – to pre-order, click here
