devils defense good news

Friends. I have some good news for you. If you follow me on social media, you probably already know this due to my incessant, obnoxious posting, but if you don’t, or if the Meta Algorithms have not been kind to me, I need to let you know:

My first full-length novel is going to be released on November 12th. It’s called Devil’s Defense, and the official description describes it thusly: “A gripping courtroom drama that explores the struggle between morality vs. professional obligation, Devil’s Defense will appeal to fans of female-lead courtroom dramas like The Good Wife.

Jessica Fischer wants nothing more than to build her law practice in small-town Ashton, Georgia. She’s well on her way when the local town hero, football coach Frank “Tripp” Wishingham III, hires her to represent him in a paternity suit. Coach is everything Jessica despises—arrogant, sexist, entitled—but it’s her job to make him look good in public. This is made doubly difficult when her burgeoning relationship with a local reporter gets in the way of telling the truth.

Are things as black and white as Jessica thinks? And can she find a way to succeed without compromising her own personal values—or her personal life?”

Of course, that description was written a hundred years ago (the publishing world still moves at the same speed as it did when you had to use a Guttenberg press) and if I were writing it today I’d say “female-lead courtroom dramas like the Matlock reboot.”

And oh yeah, the awards are starting to roll in, too, soothing my imposter syndrome like nothing else. The American Book Fest Best Book Awards made it a finalist in two different categories—general fiction and thriller/adventure.

I’m going on a minor publicity tour for this, both in person and virtual. Naturally, if you want me to show up somewhere, I’ll do it — just let me know at lori@loriduffwrites.com and I’ll come to your book club, your local bookstore, your Thanksgiving dinner, or your neighborhood block party. In other words, anywhere. #ShamelessSelfPromotion

If you want to hear what I’ve been saying about the book and what other people are saying about it, you can read the early reviews on Goodreads.
