“A Cup of Love” is a collection of stories about love – which means that it is a collection of stories about life. There are, of course, many different kinds of love. There’s romantic love, the way we love our children, the way we love an ice cream cone on a hot day, the way we love our pets, and the way we love religiously, just to name a few. All of these kinds of love are represented here, some fictional, and some non-fictional. Since they are stories of love, and not stories of heartbreak, they are stories that will warm your heart.
Sometimes you need a reminder that despite what you see on the news and social media, love exists all around us. There is plenty of good in the world if you know to look for it.
The book itself is a labor of love – the authors did not and do not profit from it – instead, the proceeds are going to First Book, an organization dedicated to putting books in the hands of low-income students, raising them out of poverty by way of literacy.
I should say that I was proud to be asked to contribute to this book. I wrote a fluffy short story about young love, a variation on the nerd-and-jock romance. It’s not Great American Literature, but it is a fun little story, and I’m not too totally embarrassed by its being out there in the world.
