Motherhood Martyrdom & Costco Runs

I admit to being a tad competitive. I mean, I was happy to have won a Bronze Reader’s Favorite Medal for my book “ You Know I Love You Because You’re Still Alive: Confessions of a Middle Aged Working Mom “ But Whitney Dineen got the gold, so I had to see if she deserved it. So I bought her book.

If you liked my book(s) (and why wouldn’t you?) you will like Whitney’s. She talks about motherhood, social awkwardness, and the joy that is making Costco runs every forty five minutes for pallets of toilet paper. You will come away wanting to be Whitney’s friend. She is funny and thoughtful and clearly loves her daughters beyond reason.

The reason why she beat me out (and deservedly so) is because she actually has a point. There is a flow to her essays, and you can get a real sense of the arc of her life, from multiple miscarriages to a (relatively) older mother of two spirited girls; from plus-sized model living in LA to suburban Mom in the Pacific Northwest.

Apparently she ‘normally’ writes romance novels, none of which I have read, but which I plan to. Her style is light and entertaining, and I can’t imagine her characters are the kind I sometimes find in romances that make me want to slap them.
